Named after Captain John Palliser (a Waterford, Ireland explorer who was with the Hector
Expedition in the 1850's) and designed by architect Lawrence Gotch, the Palliser was built for a mere 1.5 million dollars. Opened in 1914, the exterior of the Palliser features "Edwardian
